5 MORE TO GO…
As seems to be the case for when I get chance to do a parkrun nowadays, I was again on holiday this weekend, and it was yet another chance for me to pick up another parkrun in another different Australian state. Today’s run in Tasmania brought about my 5th of the 8 states after previously running in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Australian Central Territory over the course of the last two years. It even turned out that I was staying less than 1km from the start line, I’d say it wasn’t even planned but no-one would believe me!
As well as this weekend being International parkrun Day, it was also the AFL Grand Final day in Australia as well, so some events decided to hold a ‘Wear Your Colours’ day to celebrate. So for once, I decided to forgo my normal charity singlet in favour of my Sydney Swans Guernsey. I wasn’t the only one in an AFL Guernsey, but the majority of people were wearing a local shirt given that their team was actually in the final!
You meet at the back end of the Aurora Stadium in a small paved area, then once all the briefings are done there is a small walk to the start line on top of the riverbank.
From the start, you follow the path for approx 1km before talking a quick left and right turn to go through a couple of gates and to continue to run alongside the sports fields. After a short while you take a left turn into the wooded area before looping back to join the path where you previously turned off to create a little ‘lasso’ shape before heading back exactly the way you came to the finish line.
Again there is a short walk to the scanners, etc once you finish, who are based in the cabin area where you met at the start.
