Braunstone parkrun (19)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU…

Without planning it originally, when I turned up I found it was actually Braunstone parkrun’s 1st Birthday celebrations this morning! I have still not managed to get to an inaugural but a birthday celebration has to be just as good, if not better! There were a lot of people dressed up in fancy dress, lots of cakes and cheer and they arranged for a coffee van to turn up for refreshments for people both before and after the run. I am sure that the celebrations went on well after the event but I had come down to visit my brother so sadly didn’t hang around too long to take part in the festivities – next time maybe.

Although it was not actually a PB today, it was still a very quick run and I definitely felt like I had given it my all. If it wasn’t for the fact that my last PB was so much quicker than my other runs then this one would have been well under my previous one. Very pleased to have got under 25 minutes twice in the last few weeks though, going to have to rethink my PB goals now…

THE COURSE:

This course is another lapped course, this time with 2 laps and two small juts away for the start and the finish. The start is just down from the large building in the middle of the park, next to an (unused) car park, from there you follow the path back and forth across the field before heading down a long path towards the bottom of the park. When you reach the end of the park, you turn right and chicane through a skate park before following a curved path down towards a pond. You then run round the ponds and across a gravel car park at the top of the last pond before reaching a wooded area and turning right. After you reach the wooded section you zigzag through the trees and head back towards the long path to start the second of two laps, following the same route as before. When finishing the second lap, instead of turning right into the wooded section you carry on up the path and turn right approx 100m further up to an uphill finish near to where you started.

  1. Strange that this one is the only one in Leicester, considering that Nottingham and Sheffield have so many. I enjoyed it. A very mature park, lots of tumbledown buildings and very mature trees in big groves, it had almost a mysterious feeling to it. I did it a couple of years ago, will definitely redo someday. Your time is good, I dont remember what I got exactly but it was slower than yours. I may well have had a hangover, I had stayed at a friend’s house in Leicester and beer and curry had been involved.

    • I agree and I thought the same, it seems to be a bit of a black spot in that part of the country for parkrun for some reason. I think the next closest is out at Conkers, hope they pick up some more events in that area soon, my brother lives in Leicester and it would be good to pick up some different courses whenever I visit him

  2. Seems I did better than I thought – just checked and it was 24m11. I did it just before you, in Aug 2013. Definitely one to revisit.
