Doing parkrun today was probably not my best idea and if I was sensible I would have missed a week, but no-one ever completes a challenge like this by giving up!
The reason I should have rested was because 2 hours after parkrun finished I was due to take to the start line in a Super Spartan Race. For those of you who don’t know why try are, they are an extreme obstacle course filled with mud pits, ice pits, sheer wall climbs and fire obstacles to jump over, all over a 15km course while carrying a brick! Not for the faint hearted then, and I definitely felt the extra 5 when I was halfway round my actual race!
Oh well, I managed to finish both events with no issues and pick up another parkrun course without missing a week, so all was well in the end 🙂
One thing to point out at this parkrun though is to be careful about where you choose to park, where I parked (which I thought was the closest car park) was a very long walk away from the start and it took me about 30 mins or so to get there, it was just a good job that I got there early and in plenty of time this time instead of cutting it fine.
For this run, you start by some trees at the side of the river in the middle of Darley Abbey park and run with the river on your left for approx the first 650m before turning right and running up a small hill to join the path at the top of the park. From here you turn immediately right again and run up a steep walled section before you reach the cafe building and turn back on yourself towards the start line. Before reaching the start line, you then turn left past the children’s play area and enter a second field to run round the round flat perimeter of it back to the start for lap two. The second lap is the same apart from when you reach the children’s play area the second time you finish rather than doing a second small loop of the other field.
