The good thing about living in Sheffield is that I have 5 or 6 parkrun events in my city, so I have quite a few weeks where I can have something on at the weekend and still manage to fit in a parkrun!
Today I was playing football near to the north of the city so thought I would do my warm up as a 5km run at the nearby Concord Park. This park is perfect for a parkrun because there are a lot of different sports on all the time, so it serves as a great warm up for anybody playing football, tennis, golf, or anything else on their Saturday morning.
The start line is a short walk from the car park next to the leisure centre and starts at the highest point in the park, so the entire first half of the lap is down hill (although that does mean that the entire second half is up hill). Although there are a lot of different paths in this park the course is relatively simple to navigate. From the start you run past the football and tennis courts then when the path comes to a cross-road you take the right path round the far perimeter round the edge of some of the football fields, all gradually going down hill. At the bottom of the hill you come to another car park which you cross and make your way gradually back up the incline. When you reach the crossroads at which you turned on the way down, you turn right this time and head round the back of where you started to complete the first of two laps. After the second lap, the finish line is before you turn back towards the start line, so it feels like the second lap is a lot shorter!
