Seeing as though I had completed both of the other courses in Sydney, it was only right that in my last available opportunity I ran the other remaining course. I don’t know if this was sensible/madness/brave or what, but the significance of today’s run is that while the run starts at 8am, I need to be at the airport for my flight home to the UK at about 11am! Today was all about timing, I had the whole thing planned out, even down to the times of the buses based on me finishing the course in under 30 minutes! After making sure that my bag was all packed before I left for the run (again at an early AM time) and armed with photos on my phone of the different bus times (I had no internet on my temporary Aus phone), I set off on my 3rd different parkrun course for my 3rd parkrun.
Whilst walking down to the course, I had an amazing idea – what if I was to ONLY run different parkrun courses and never run the same course twice? I would join the 50 Club with 50 different courses, 100 Club with 100 different course, and so on, and as far as I was aware I would be the first one to do it! It was at this moment that I had hatched my plan and decided that I would try to become the ultimate #parkruntourist
Much to my surprise, the run went like clockwork, the 2 buses I needed to get to the course ran on time and I arrived before the parkrun guys had even had chance to set up! I love it when a plan comes together…
The course is the first ‘out-and-back’ that I have done, which means it is a straight 2.5km and then turnaround and go back exactly the way you came. It starts in the George Kendall Riverside Park and follows along the waterside of the Parramatta River. It is positioned perfectly so that when you start you are at the peak of the run and the first 1km is pretty much all downhill, then you have a couple of other ‘mini’ hills along the course to contend with too. The great thing about an ‘out-and-back’ course is that every hill you do uphill, you then do downhill on the way back (or vice versa), so you always get the satisfaction of a downhill run somewhere along the course!
